Who We Are and What We Do

Roberto D. Navarro, Regional Director for CRS Southwest

Roberto holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from St. Edward’s University in Austin, and has earned two Masters Degrees in Theology and in Pastoral Ministry from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio. He is a candidate for a Doctorate in Ministry from The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. Before joining CRS, Mr. Navarro worked at the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston as Director of the Office of Young Adult and Campus Ministry and in the Diocese of Austin, Texas where he held various positions with Catholic Charities of Central Texas, the Youth and Young Adult Office, and the Hispanic Ministry Office. Mr. Roberto Navarro was named Regional Director in February 2013; in that capacity, he collaborates with dioceses and Catholic organizations to promote awareness of CRS, Catholic Social Teaching and global issues and works to foster relationships with bishops, diocesan directors and other leaders in the region.

Carla E. Aguilar, Relationship Manager/Advocacy & Communications

Carla E. Aguilar holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English/Communication Arts and a Master’s Degree in International Relations with an emphasis on international conflict resolution from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, TX. Prior to joining CRS Southwest in January 2010, Ms. Aguilar worked in the fundraising/special event planning field. Ms. Aguilar has also served as the Director of Communications and Development for Merced Housing Texas, a faith-based affordable housing agency and has worked as a reporter for several Spanish media publications. As Relationship Manager, Carla is responsible for outreach and relationship development to seven dioceses which include: the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City, the Dioceses of Little Rock, Tulsa, Dallas, Ft. Worth, Tyler and Cheyenne. Carla temporarily will oversee the Diocese of Colorado Springs. In these dioceses, she educates and informs Catholics and others on global issues via workshops, trainings, etc., and provides opportunities for active engagement of dioceses in CRS’ various programming.

Anna C. Huth, Relationship Manager/Clergy, Diocese, Parish

Anna C. Huth holds a M.Div. degree from Oblate School of Theology and a B.A. degree from St. Mary’s University. Ms. Huth joined CRS Southwest in May 2006 after serving for more than three decades in pastoral ministry, pastoral administration and community development, with particular emphases on retreat and workshop leadership and the Church’s call to solidarity. As Relationship Manager, Anna is responsible for outreach and relationship development to seven dioceses which include: the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, the Dioceses of Salt Lake City, Austin, Beaumont, Victoria, Brownsville, and Corpus Christi. Anna temporarily will oversee the Archdiocese of Santa Fe. In these dioceses, she educates and informs Catholics and others on global issues via workshops, trainings, etc., and provides opportunities for active engagement of dioceses in CRS’ various programming.

Marcos G. Martinez, Relationship Manager/Youth and Young Adult

Marcos G. Martínez holds an MTS degree from Oblate School of Theology and a B.A. degree from the College of Santa Fe, NM. Prior to joining CRS Southwest in May 2006, Mr. Martínez served on the staff at the Mexican-American Cultural Center, San Antonio, TX, and previously, was Director of Youth Ministry for the Diocese of El Paso. Mr. Martínez is a nationally recognized figure in youth ministry and has worked in that field since 1985. As Relationship Manager, Marcos is responsible for outreach and relationship development to seven dioceses which include: the Archdiocese of San Antonio, the Dioceses of Amarillo, El Paso, Laredo, Lubbock, Las Cruces and San Angelo. Marcos will temporarily oversee the Diocese Tucson. In these dioceses, he educates and informs Catholics and others on global issues via workshops, trainings, etc., and provides opportunities for active engagement of dioceses in CRS’ various programming.

Norma L. Valdez, Relationship Manager/Education and Formation

Norma L. Valdez holds a Master of Arts degree in Religious Studies from the University of the Incarnate Word and a B.S. in Religion from Texas Wesleyan University. Prior to joining CRS Southwest in February of 2014, Ms. Valdez was the Director of Youth Ministry for the Diocese of El Paso and has over sixteen years of ministry experience working at the parish and diocesan level. Norma is a nationally recognized figure in the Tekawitha conference and a member of the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo Nation where she is on the board of Tiwahu. As Relationship Manager, Norma is responsible for outreach and relationship development to seven dioceses which include: the Archdioceses of Denver and Santa Fe and the Dioceses of Colorado Springs, Gallup, Phoenix, Pueblo, and Tucson.In these dioceses, the relationship manager educates and informs Catholics and others on global issues via workshops, trainings, etc., and provides opportunities for active engagement of dioceses in CRS’ various programming.

Sylvia Danielson, Office Coordinator

Sylvia attended the University of Texas in El Paso, San Antonio Community College, and Austin Community College. Prior to joining CRS Southwest in February 2013, Sylvia served as interim Director for La Frontera Ministries working on both sides border and as a Senior Administrative Assistant with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) where she worked with Hispanic Outreach and Mission, including communications with non-profit organizations in Texas and with 9 national regions of ELCA, as well as budget administration for ELCA programs, and a range of administration responsibilities. Sylvia is responsible for Southwest Regional Office management, budget and finance, and information systems.
